Meet Line Atallah, the Billie Web Girl

Creative Director & Founder of TELEGRAPHE [a tiny web services agency]

Creative Director & Founder of TELEGRAPHE {a tiny web services agency}

When I first mentionned to Line we had to dedicate a day to her during our collaborators’ week, she immediately refused. I had to use my persuasive power to convince her. You would have understood that Line, as generous as she is with her time and as dedicated as she is to her work, does not like to be under the spotlight. Yet, it is thanks to her that you can all read our daily online chronicles.

Line is our web marketing mentor and we work together so that all flows better. Line was one of the first customers of whom I knew by name. I also remember her first purchase; she bought this eclectic outfit that I had put together for the storewindow. I was proud of it, but thought I was the only one who liked it. She walked in and asked for the whole outfit « as is » and without knowing it, she had brought back my self-confidence. Four years later, on top of caring for her small family and her other projects, she works with us and comes off as a huge support. She’s the Billie Girls’ mommy and we appreciate her implication. Without her, our blog would not exist.

Line is also passionate about food, and when asked what TOP 5 subject she would like to cover she mentionned : “Restaurants!” with no hesitation. Below is her list.

Thank you Line!

LINE’S TOP 5 MONTREAL RESTAURANTS:

TOP 1: Toqué! for the best food experience in Montreal

It might sound snobish, pretentious, or just way too obvious. But my relationship with Toqué! is one of a kind. Forget the beautiful decor, the 10 waiters that surround you, the never ending dish descriptions, and wine stories ( which absolutely fascinate me! ). The food, the food, the food is just…. how can I say? I can’t. Go there, try it, and come back here to leave a comment. Oh, and I forgot: definitely take the tasting menu with wine pairing, expensive and so worth it.

TOP 2: Bistro Bienville, for the best brunch I had in Montreal in a long time.

I’ve discovered Bistro Bienville on a photoshoot for Billie. You can see the articles here and here. I instantly fell in love with this tiny french bistro on tiny Mentana Street on the Plateau. Being a graphic designer, the first think that caught my eye was their logo, then the foodie in me loved their concept. One evening, Annie invited me for dinner there, as she felt I really wanted to try it. We ate and ate, and drank, and drank some more. I was in heaven! When I came back home, I told my husband Shibl about my evening, and he insisted on going the same week. We’ve been once, and twice, and three times, and tried to reserve a fourth time but it was full. And one Sunday, we’ve decided to try the brunch. With no hesitation, it was the best brunch I had in a very long time. Go there, try the scrambled eggs + angus beef. We also enjoyed a glass of champagne with the appetizer: a truffled lobster tart, that was just exquisite. On that day, they were also serving a fresh apple / fennel juice, such a beautiful marriage of flavors. Perfect!

TOP 3: Camelia Sinensis, for the best Pu Ehr tea (which exact name I don’t remember)

If you love tea, you must go to Camelia Sinensis. And if you love tea, you must also try Pu Ehr. This little tea house in front of the Quartier Latin movie theater will charm you. I am always amazed at how much stuff the staff there knows about tea. But trust me, try Pu Ehr, and ask them to recommend their favorite. I forgot which one it was, but I am pretty sure you will fall in love with it, as much as I did.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

TOP 4: Jun i, or the best place to eat sushi & sashimi in Montreal

You must have noticed by now, I am very picky about food, and very opiniated. And, honnestly, Jun i is the only sushi restaurant in Montreal that serves sushi & sashimi they way I imagine it should be. I’ve never been to Japan, but I read a lot about food. Actually, you don’t need to read, you need to try. If you are into rolls, and americanized sushi, you will not love Jun i. If it is raw fish that you love, the subtle differences in taste, texture, and fat level then run to Jun i at your first sushi craving. You can try their lunch, I suggest the sushi / sashimi lunch. Jun i is much more than a sushi restaurant. He’s got the second best tasting menu after Toqué, in my opinion. A fusion of french & japanese cuisine, at its best.

TOP 5: Mamie Clafoutis, bread the way bread should be.

When I discovered the breads of Mamie Clafoutis I got very worried. What will happen to me now? Will I gain a kilo a day? Two? I can’t help it. This little bakery is very close to my office, and I am a bread lover. I don’t eat much of it, because it ends up on my hips, but I can’t control it when I step into Mamie Clafoutis, and look at these pieces of art, with their homey smell, and beautiful colours. I was lucky once to be preparing a photoshoot for one of my former clients, where I had to shop for bread. I bought them ALL! Did we really need them at the photoshoot? Not really! But my taste buds definitily needed to try them all. My favorite? The blue cheese one. I am a blue cheese person.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Oh my god, I just went on and on talking about food on a fashion blog. Sorry! And thank you Annie & Véronique for the opporunity to tell a bit more about myself, and come out from behind the scenes. I also appreciate a lot your kind words. It is such a pleasure to work with you! You bring out the girl in me.
